Mersea Island is the virtually all easterly inhabited island in the UK, located on the Essex, England, coast south east of Colchester. A title "Mersea" is from either a Old English "meresig" meaning "island of the pool", sustaining the island hosting a people of or so 6500. These are joined to the mainland by the causeway, first constructed within Roman days & known as A Strood. This carries a Mersea - Colchester road (B1025) which is covered at high spring tides.
